Project Information
I disliked the existing sconce in the stairwell, so…. Saint that I am, I made a new one for my wife for Christmas. What?...Oh Come on, really? None of you have ever done that? Whatever. She's happy, so it's a win-win in my book, and I'll take brownie points wherever, (and however) I can get'em.
This project took full advantage of my first post project, a DIY Gripper push block, which made accurate narrow rips a snap. The mullions are ripped 1/2" square cherry, dadoed for the glass, tenoned for the square joints and splined at the angled joints. The cap is made of walnut. The lamp face slides over the back plate and is easily removed for bulb changes…though with led bulbs, that won't be too often. I broke an embarrassing amount of pricey stained glass cutting the pieces to fit. Still, a fun project, and will probably make more lamps of varying types down the road.
