Project Information

I've named it "the Beast". Fairly certain I could chuck this off my roof and it would only sustain a few dents. I haven't been able to find someone else using the sliding dovetail tenon to join the top (probably because everyon else is smart enough to not put this much effort into a sawbench). I did this as a skill builder as preparation for building a Roubo bench at some point in the near future. The long stretchers and top are draw-bored using oak dowels. Draw-bored may be a stretch as I would describe the offsets as "cowardly". The short stretchers are joined with single dovetails, simply because I thought they would look cool.

I'm glad I built this before attempting a full size bench. I made numerous mistakes (reason there are no close up shots of the joinery:)) but learned a lot in the process.

Great saw bench! This something I need to do, and real soon. Big Dove tails are the same as little ones aren't they?

Very nice and practical skill-builder. Even the stretchers are dovetailed, a very nice touch. Favorited.

Love the joints, I think you are correct, but might be a little extreme

What a super idea!
I've been hesitant about those Roubo joints. It never occurred to me-making a "little" Roubo for practice.
You did a really good job from the looks of it.

The difference from a DIY'er and a so-called Professional, is this:
the Pro has done it once before.

He who has not made any mistakes has not done anything.
I love it and after seeing it would like to build one like it.
I don't feel that anything can be overbuilt:)!
