Project Information

I finally decided to get things more organized and build a miter saw bench and storage. I incorporated the bench into the wood rack I built earlier. The outside is maple with just Arm-a-seal to protect it. I got the counter top from Lowe's for $46, and made the fence out of maple with t-slots on the front and top. It has a set of 6, 8, 10 and 12" drawers with some re-purposed drawer slides from an old desk. The dust hood collects a lot more of the dust than my old set-up. Hopefully this boosts productivity while making the wood shop look less like a disaster area.

Well done Matt. What a huge improvement and it looks great.

It also makes good use of your space while providing more surface area for all your projects.

You should be proud.

P.S. If you need an idea for dust collection for your RAS, look in my projects folder.

Looking good! It's something I need to do too.

Because I have both at RAS and a Miter Saw, I'm wondering what your plans are for the RAS?

Fantastic. Should make shop time even more enjoyable….......not to mention more productive.
Well done.
I have something similar in my near future. I plan to put a small dedicated shop vac in the cabinet directly under the miter saw with the hose running up the back and attaching to it. Then rig up some simple switch to be able to turn it on and off quickly without having to open the cabinet and bending over each time. Looks like this might be a good option for you as well. Could even "T" the hose and send one branch over to the radial arm saw if you so choose.

Well done! Just got done with a similar project..and the toughest part was fitting in/adjusting the RAS so that it used the same bench top and fence.
Good job!

That's a nice looking setup. Looks much better than what you had going on in picture #2. If I may had to the dust suggestions. I did a similar dust collection box and found that by closing a portion of the top closest to the saw more of the dust fell down inside the box instead of coming back out at me. And I changed the bottom to more of a bowl shape to assist the vacuum.

One more thing related to these kind of saws, Could I get some more voices calling on manufacturers to include both switched & unswitched electrical outlets made into the base of these saws. Like we have on the back of our stereo receivers. One for the vacuum that comes on when the trigger is pulled, and one for an accessory light to help light up the workspace.

Well done. I have a similar set up. I tacked a yardstick on the fence for easy measurements on the chop saw. I'm not smart enough to have 1 stick work with both machines. ;-)

Sweet. I am in the middle of something similar but not so nice. More of a retrofit of an old 2×4 bench. It is awesome to have the miter saw sunken in the top like that. I love it.

Nice work. I have been busy doing much the same thing since I bought a new miter saw. Looking at at least another months worth of work before I can say I am done.

Looks nice, but how do you zero-in/align the RAS? Since the RAS is bolted to the bench, squaring the arm/blade requires moving the table in relation to the saw…and your table appears stationary, too. I've never used a RAS that didn't need adjustment!
