Project Information

This box is for my son's girlfriend. She is a big tea fan and this is designed to hold packaged or loose tea.

The box itself is some special figured maple from a tree cut down in front of my Dad's childhood home - I'm really glad this did not get turned into firewood like most of that wood did! This is a simple mitred box with Cherry feathers in the mitres for contrast.

The lids and the dividers are all Cherry, and the lids are all cut from one piece of wood that I had left over from my Tommy Mac toolchest - turned out great! The handles are 1/8" wide bloodwood dropped into a 1" Forstner hole and a small screw from below. The top is yellowheart veneered over a BB core, the bottom is cherry veneered BB core.

Thanks for looking!

Now that is a great idea. Ok if I steal it? The idea that is, not the box ;)

Richard, what finish did you use? I like how the maple maintained its original color.

Thanks all for the kind words folks.

lysdexic - I used the same finish as my rocking chairs, Deft Natural finish for a couple of build coats, rub it out to 800 once its dry and a couple of thinned coats of satin wipe-on poly for some protection.
