Project Information

Maple and walnut box with solid brass hinges and dark brown velvet liner.
The design of this box is a follow up of the 1882 box I posted recently .
http://lumberjocks.com/projects/135442
On this box I thought I try a more pronunced diamond pattern by veneering maple onto walnut and then cutting the pattern and it worked out beautiful .
See the blog on cutting pattern jig here .

I love the result of this process and suits this style of box very much .
I will further develop this process which has many more possibilitys and keeps me thinking whats next .
I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think .

Klaus,
Beautiful boxes. Excellent workmanship.
Your pattern on your boxes reminds me of the textured box I previously posted:

Did you create your pattern using a 45 degree router bit on a router table, or do you use a different approach?
Thanks,
Roger

There are many different words to describe this. I would have to use them all. The maple pyramids seem to reach out from the walnut. The design is one of a kind. I am overly impressed Klaus.

Wow! No, I mean WOW! Really classy, elegant… I don't know the correct word, so I'll just say WOW! Noobie question…how thick is the veneer and could you post a close up image of the pyramids? Thanks for sharing, Klaus.

I like the box and see it as a piece of ART.

And I think there are a lot of people like to know how you are doing this.

there are some fantastic features on this one then the other, this one to me is so much nicer to me, i know one is the veneer over, having the walnut and maple mix is so much nicer the lift inside is toned down and the top all in all …this is a real classic box..very well done…
