Project Information

I've had the Ivac automated blast gate system for several years. I like it a lot. Every stationary machine in my shop has a sensor and blast gate that automatically opens, closes and turns on the Laguna 3 HP dust collector when I turn on each machine. It's a really nice system. I also installed Rockler's dust hose track a few years ago, hooking it up to a Fein shop vac and a Festool 150 sander with an enclosed sleeve over the power cord and hose hanging from the ceiling. Then I bought a used spindle sander and simply switched the hoses to either the spindle sander or the ROS to the shop vac.
Since I had a spare Ivac blast gate, sensor and control box I decided to get another gate and sensor and automate dust collection my sanding station as well. Now I have a blast gate and sensor for my ROS and spindle sander each aumatically opening and turning on the shop vac. Here's how it turned out. It works really well. I know it's a little extreme.
