Project Information

Have you ever watched those Christmas specials with all the elves sitting around making wooden toys. Then on Christmas morning, kids all over the world start opening plastic toys that require batteries. What gives? When my son was born, I decided that every year Santa would be giving him a wooden toy.

This year, he is really into Star Wars. To the point that he walks around the house singing Darth Vader's Imperial March! Naturally, he asked Santa for Star Wars toys. So, in three weeks, I had to quickly scrap the original plan for a crane, design a new toy and build it.

I came up with a nice Sand Speeder for him from Episode IV. Mostly maple with a Mexican Bloodwood for the red parts. Oak for the turbines (only because it was what I had). Pretty happy with this years project from Santa. My son loves it too!

Cool! A great toy and a great family keepsake. (I'm sure your grandchildren will appreciate this when "Star Wars Episode XXXVI: Ewoks vs. Jawas" is released in Interactive Virtual Reality Holo-Vision.)

Seriously, a very cool gift and a very lucky kid to have a Santa who cares about old fashioned quality.

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks everyone! My son really does love it. He has always enjoyed the nice wooden toys Santa makes just as much as the plastic ones. Uploaded some more pics for everyone including some close ups on the interior. I don't have any of construction unfortunately. It's hard enough keeping this hidden from very curious eyes. I wouldn't want him stumbling on a picture on the phone.
