I was rushing to get on a plane the next morning, so they just got one coat of boiled linseed oil.

In that case Woodwrecker, make the round bits on the sides a little large than I did. I had in my head that they had to have the same diameter as the thickness of the lid, which of course isn't correct. The screw has to go through at half the thickness of the lid, but the semi-circle above it can be any size. Make it a bit bigger so that there's a bit more wood there to avoid breakages. I think mine is strong enough, just, but only because it's oak. I'd have preferred a bit more meat there.
