Rustic Internet Shipping friendly log benches made with Aromatic Red Cedar….aaachooo!

Normally I make my benches out of 2" thick slabs with the legs permanently attached making them hard to pack to ship and in the van to do shows, because there were only so many (5-10) you could fit in the 1 ton cargo van, but I have an abundance of 1" inch, so I have been trying to figure out an inexpensive version of my benches utilizing 1" inch and something that can be broke down, packed flat and easily assembled back and has the same basic look, something I can sell cheaper at shows and the internet and ship cheaper in this new economy.

Each bench would use 2 pairs of legs, these legs are mortised and epoxied 1" deep into a standard size 2×6 stretcher, so the legs are movable and interchangeable between slabs…. I did one with glue and 5.. 2" screws, and one without glue and just the screws held just as well as the glued up one….so in theory I could haul perhaps 50 prepared tops and 100 pairs of bases in a smaller footprint, utilizing mesquite, pecan, cedar, etc..

I did shows for all of last year as a learning experience, and I sold more benches as a matter of fact all my benches but the problem I had was I could only haul so many and I had to price them higher cause I utilized twice as much material and could only bring a certain amount…

It is still a work in progress…thanx

Beautiful benches. I like that rustic style, and love the cedar.
