Project Information

This is my router/tablesaw extension.
The frame is 1×3 poplar.
The top is 3/4" ply (to allow for the track)
The frame was rabbet (3/4"x1/4") to allow the ply to sit flush and then the laminate was applied over the top and beveled at 22 1/2 degrees (just makes a cleaner presentation)
I made the extension extra long so I can still cut up to 48" or so on the table saw without having to mess with the router setup.
The on/off switch is set flush with the frame so I won't hang up on it as I move by, but it still allows for easy and convenient shut-off.

BTW…
The blue track was cut off shortly after the picts were taken. It was never meant to be that long. I just posted the picts before it was cut.

Have you had any trouble with the extended miter track?

That looks like my Jessem Xacta router lift that came with my JET cabinet saw. However , your table is certainly of higher quality and I like the added track. My lift is facing in the opposite direction , so there is no room to install the track .

patron - the fence on the lift came with it, it's ok but eventually I'll build a much better one. The long (white) fence is the table saw fence

lew - there is no purpose for the track to be that long. I just haven't taken the time to cut it off yet.

Dusty56 - the lift is a Jessem (problably the same as on your saw) I specifically installed it backwards so I could have the track. You should be able to just turn yours around and get the same result. NOTE: if you do….you will have to re-tap the screw holes for the fence because once the lift is turned around, they are on the feed side of the bit.

that is a great looking router table… i did the same thing as you did…however i did it without the insert….now that i have a stand alone shop ( i dont have to share it with the wife's car) i think i will make it more permanent set up like the one you have…..hope you don't mind me borrowing a few of your ideas.

Screwge, Thanks for posting this project. I have been contemplating this very thing for my Delta contractors saw. The undertable shoots were specially helpful Jim

I made this a favorite. I bought another router today for a TS wing installation. Your work will be instructive for my project.

As others have commented, your project has re-kindled my thoughts about getting this going, myself.

Miter saw with a junk blade will trim that miter track to size, a blue sharpie will come pretty darn close to right on for getting the color right…

FWIW, I am planning on redoing mine, and might just edge mine as you have done yours. Sure looks good that way…

Screwge, good simple functional design. Your router table is very similar to what I am making-for the 4th time. I have the same PC 890 router and will use the Jessem FX router lift for this build. The way you extended the track beyond the table is asking for trouble. I know I would walk into it within 5 minutes.

I just finished making the fence for my new router table. It's different from what I have seen here in LJs. The fence has a screw adjustment so it can easily make fine adjustments. The design is very simple, inexpensive and pratical. I will post it when it's finished. You may want to look into this feature when I post it.

The track was cut off shortly after the pictures were taken. It was never meant to be that way permanently; I just jumped the gun on taking the photos so I could post it.

I guess I should take a new photo. It seems to get alot of folks concerned.

Looks like I will follow in your footsteps. Any regrets on mounting your router in table saw wing? I love the idea of space saving…but would hate for it to get in the way.
