Project Information

Here's my latest project. I took and old 2×8 and cut it in half. Cut a 1.5" deep dado in each of the edges and then used a piece of walnut at the spline. I Rough cut the circle on the table saw taking away little pieces at a time and then used my Rigid spindle sander with the belt on it to finish off the circle. Then rounded over all the edges including the hole for the rope and applie about 6 coats of spray on poly….. works great…..

yeah that was me, luckily my extension ladder was long enough to reach up there….. but with about 12' of clearance all around it you can get some serious height on that swing….

That is neatly made!
One question on the grain direction of the spline. Does it go perpendicular to the direction of the seat? It looks perpendicular.
I had repaired an oak toilet sea with a spline and I put the grain in the spine parallel to the direction of the seat so it matched and blended well. It cracked like the base wood so I put one in perpendicular to the seat grain and it lasted for 10 yr so far!.............Jim

@Jim It's definetly perpendicular to the seat grain. I'm hoping it last's a few years… :)
