Project Information

Decorative window valance using a design from a Captain's Desk. I got the idea from Rick Gonzales who is a woodworking instructor at the El Rito Heritage Retreat Center at Northern New Mexico College in El Rito NM. The frame is a rope cut design that is used in southwest style furniture. I carved three sides of each frame piece and then cut a rabbet for the design to fit within the frame. All carving done using gouges and flat wood chisels. Satin finish.

Sorry I don't have pictures of the build process. I didn't give it a thought at the time. My wife wants two more of these for over the other sections of the doorwall. I'll take interim pictures during the build and post a blog.

Great job Tom. That would be worth a blog on how you did it.

Tom,

That is a very nice job. This is one of those techniques that are not part of my woodworking skills. The more of these that I see the more interested I am becoming. It looks like Grumpy made a motion and it was seconded by Gary. Let me make it a third. I think it would be interesting to see a blog on how this is done.

I agree, let's see the work in progress. That is a very clean job on the rope.
Thanks.
