Project Information
I was making this box as a project to utilize some homemade banding, and practice pinned breadboard ends, half-mortise locks and an escutcheon idea I had. At the last moment I decided to turn and wood-burn a little acorn pull for the top. After everything went together it looked a little (at a certain angle, and with liberally supplied whimsy - of which I am never in short supply) like a shy kid grinning back at me. Some of our friends with minor children suggested that "he" resembles a cartoon character named "Rolie Polie Olie."
Cherry, Holly and Cardinal wood banding, Mahogany escutcheon and acorn pull. Shellac and wax finish.
My wife made all the millinery flower ribbon work and designs for the eggs in the background as well as the rabbits. Apparently we are both drawn to eighteenth century craftwork that at the end of the day pays about 25 cents an hour. Hi ho.
