As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Don, you simply posted the photo and said what it was.

I saw a stunningly beautiful rocker and family heirloom created by your own hand. This is my fist post here. I joined to comment on your chair. I am a carpenter who has never taken the time to truly learn the art of fine joinery. I use my talents and efforts to make money, and fine joinery seems to me to be a tough way to earn a living considering the automated manufacturing processes which are now so ubiquitous.

Your grand daughter. Your son. These are considerations that go beyond earning money. (To a degree at least) what a joy to know that these gifts will be reminders of a loving patriarch later in their lives.

I have got to build some furniture using traditional joinery. I always wanted to, but never took the time. Well… Anyway… Great job and a lovely heirloom.

Thank you for your kind comments. It's very enjoyable seeing the little grandchildren get a book and climb in the chair and set back in it to read it.

Great job on this rocker. Grandchildren's projects are the best as they always seem appreciative. I have 3 Teddy Bear Rockers under construction at this time.

That's a beautiful chair. You chose the wood well, and as others have said, the joinery looks great. Are the rails under the seat made with haunched tenons? Just a guess, looking at where they're through. It looks great.
