Project Information

A board was pointed out for me of Roasted Maple while doing my weekly search for wood. I instantly bought it. While the bulk of it will be for making boxes, I couldn't resist cutting some up and making a pen. The picture doesn't do the figure justice. It has a 3d quality to it.

Let me add my applause, too. Clever design on the box… hmmm… clever enough to "snitch" the concept… I've never heard of "roasted" maple until now. It looks breathtaking.

Thanks for posting!

Great looking pen. Never heard of Roasted Maple either. To what does the term refer?

I found this on the Internet:

"Maple is heated to very high temperatures in a vacuum condition. The Maple is then rehumidified in order to achieve a uniformly colored material. This achieves levels of greater consistency and dimensional stability. The resultant color (coffee) is similar to one of Black Walnut but the price is less expensive. "

The picture really doesn't do the wood justice.

Thanks for the kind words!

Tim
