Project Information

Oh no! I was making this Purpleheart and Yew pattern and a rift opened up in time and space. With an alternate pattern in it of Ebony and Sycamore.

I've moved quickly and frozen it on a Birch ply base and caged it in Wenge.

It shrank a bit but its still 162mm x 62mm x 7mm. I'm hanging it on the wall. Its too small for a cutting board!

What did you use to freeze this? If you could bottle it I think you might get rich!

If anyone asks what use you intended for it - it would hold bagels nicely or maybe a large pickle.

Either way - very pretty pattern! Do you have it's reverse somewhere perhaps?

Bob. You never know it might just turn up someday!

Froze it with PVA. Its stronger than it looks.

Reminds me of the Cheshire Cat.

Also, there seems to always be a mirror copy of ourselves outside the wormhole.

Oops! I know how these things can happen Martyn.
Good repair though, fortunately you caught it before the space time continuum was irreparably compromised.

I love the gradual change in color effect, as the submarine emerge through the depth into light - yin into yang! Super job, Martyn! Very creative indeed!

Did i ever tell you about the morning that i woke up , all 'bleary-eyed' ,

In a small jai…...um…..' holding facillity'.......in Oaxaca ?

I stumbeled to the bars…....um i mean…..Courtesy gate….yeah

and asked the guar….....um….'attendant' ........

" hey , how much does it cost to get out of here ?!!!!!!

He laughed very loudly and then said…........" How much you got ? "

One day you're laying rock with some nice guys from Oaxaca in Austin ,

The next week you find yourself in magic cactus land , goodtimesinthe80s .
Maybe it does remind me of Oaxaca a little …no, not as spacey as that . By now you have probably guessed that i really have been to Oaxaca. Who supplies your 'exotic' woods ? Are 'exotic' woods considered 'exotic' woods in the country of origin ? Why is ebony so expensive ? Can you substitute black enamel for that stuff ? Way cheaper! And what about yew , besides making long bows, Is that a zodic ?

Many projects seem to be getting smaller , i think you have started a trend . Everyone will soon be making tiny band saw boxes , and whittling out natsuke to go in them. RIFT has raised more questions about so many unansweird things. I would go on and on , but lets face it, i'm not discussing important things like hand planes, so i better cut it short . What is the difference between shorts and cut-offs ? I think you should wear shorts to the pool , but cut-offs are fine for the beach. What do you think ? So many questions, candyman,so many questions…...................

Could you hang 'Rift' as a picture next to that beautiful Italian table that you made ?
Would it be small (big) enough ?
I can't do that hard mm. math . I have mm dyslexia .
I can convert Milliliters when i'm at the liquor store though. I know ,for instance, that750ml is a primed number.
....so many questions….........
