Workshop Information

Location
United States
My workshop measures 17' x 22' with an additional 2' x 9' alcove (just under 400 square feet). That is enough if you strategically place your tools so you have adequate work areas around the tools. I have most of the standard wood working shop tools except a drum sander. I have designed my workshop so that I have logical and convenient storage space for everything. There really is a place for everything and (usually) everything is in its place.

With respect to most of my large stationary tools, I tend to buy tools that are at the limit of what you can run on 110 volts. I just don't want to hassle with 220. I was originally a Jet fan but my 2 most recent purchases of substance are Grizzlys and I am becoming a Grizzly fan.

The surface of my workbench is bamboo flooring. I mention that because that is somewhat unusual. It is an amazingly tough and durable surface.

Not shown is the dust collection system. I use Rockler's dust right system with ports on 8 different machines. I also have an air filtration unit overhead.

Rich, this is a nice looking shop that you have to work in. It looks like you have it well organized and it is laid out well. It also looks like you have organized your offcuts pretty well. That is a problem that vexes most of us. We can't bear to get rid of them because invariably we will find a need for them and then we are faced with how to store and organize them.

You have a nice set of tools to play with as well.

Thanks for the pictures. I enjoyed visiting your shop.

I was just looking at my own pictures again and I was struck by how clean my workbench is. These pictures were taken a few months ago right after I had built that workbench. It certainly is not as clean now. However, I am very happy with how the bamboo top is holding up.

This workbench started as a cabinet in a flower shop that we used to own. I added 2 layers of MDF on the top and then a layer of bamboo flooring. I put 8/4 oak around the perimeter. This is a very heavy workbench and since it was once in a flower shop I probably have the only work bench in the country with a built in ribbon dispenser.

Very nice shop. I like the table under the table saw… been trying to figure out where to put my tenoning jig. Guess now I need to build me a table. Every thing is very well laid out.

Nice looking workshop, very well organized, but too neat for my tastes. I didn't see your lathe, judging from the lack of chips and strips on the floor you keep at a freinds house. HaHaHaHa.
Thanks for sharing, it is always nice to see what others have, and how they lay it out.
