(I have a short blog about putting my shop together here)

My woodshop shares a 2-car garage with my wife's car. Of course I dream about having a huge standalone shop, but really I have plenty of room for the time being. It is my little piece of heaven and I spend a lot of evenings and weekends out there.

I moved into my current house in May of 2012, and it took me quite a while to get set back up and be able to make sawdust again. I like to keep things very organized, so I have made several shelves and racks to hold specific tools. As you can tell from the pictures, I prefer to build customized furniture/jigs/etc. for my shop rather than buying.

  • I have the venerable Harbor Freight 2 HP dust collector. I mounted a Thien bafflin inside the separator ring, and I plan to upgrade to a Wynn cartridge filter when I have the money. The dust collector is only hooked up to the table saw right now, but will eventually be used for a jointer and planer as well. I use my shopvac for dust collection with smaller tools (drill press sanding drums, bandsaw, router table, handheld sanders).

  • I keep my workbench along the largest wall in my shop, surrounded by tool and clamp racks. The bench also holds my Shop Fox W1668 Bench-Top Drill Press. I chose this drill press because it can function as an oscillating spindle sander, which has come in very handy.

  • At the front of my shop I have an old Delta 12" 2-knife planer (on loan from a friend), a Craftsman 9'' Benchtop Bandsaw, and a Makita MAC2400 air compressor.

  • A friend recently gave me an antique wood lathe. I've purchased a few accessories for it and am just getting started in the world of turning. Soon I will build a cabinet stand for the lathe with retractable casters.

  • Finally, on the far wall of the garage by my wife's car, I have a lumber rack with room for sheet-goods storage underneath.

Grizzly G0490 8" Jointer

Planned Shop Projects:

Roger, I really like that tablesaw. I would recommend it to anyone. I did a review of it here.
