Making some good progress Bandit, really like the dovetails. As for the shims, agreed don't want to leave marks on the wood while using the clamps. The pad that they come with seem to get lost after a while. Wish the stores would just sell the ads alone.

Ok...last 2 rails were installed, not without a fight, though..

Lots of chopping going on...yet, even though I am down even with the frames...

It would seem these last 2 frames were a hair too far forward
I was using a square to make sure things did line up...

So when the socket was laid out, there would be a smooth surface for the drawer to slide on..was finally able to do a glue up..

Figured that when the clamps come off today..I can plane/beltsand/plane things down level...I also need to sabresaw out the profile on the bottom rail.

Think it would be easier to cut then plane...?

Well, was able to get a bit done today...Sabre saw?

Already had the profile drawn on the bottom rail, didn't feel like re-drawing it after things were leveled, so this went first, after all them clamps came off....once the cutting was done..THEN the leveling and planing could get started.

Note to self: NEVER buy the blue sanding belts at Harbor Freight again...all they seem to want to do is...SHRED. Buy the red belts, instead...better grit, lasts a lot longer...

let this sit on the floor, for now...need a miter box set up..

As I need to make 4 corner blocks...( scrap from cutting the foot profile..)

Then a drill to mill a slot in each block..

These are used to attach a top to the case, with screws....the slots allow the top to move a bit, due to humidity changes...

So..now that the bench is almost cleared off..

Decided to start with a glue up of the top, next.....then start work on 4 drawers about...next Tuesday?

Stay tuned..( that No. 8c sitting on the bottom shelf might have some work coming up?)

Have since cross cut a maple plank into 3 blanks.....intend to joint all their edges, and see about gluing them up into a top...might even see about some Maple bread board edges...and have them ready...

Then start milling up parts for the drawers? 3/4 overlay style...Ash fronts, pine sides and backs...

Boss doesn't "do" stairs..so I am safe, for now...

A case needs a top...so

Need to pick the best 3 out of this pile...all cut from the same plank...hmmm..

And save the 4th for the bread board ends..

Need to get those 3 jointed, to make a gap-free glue joint between them...Jointer?

Yep, that is what this plane does best...got the first board done...onto #2...and then test how well they fit together..

Dry fit..no glue, no clamps..just sitting there..Gaps?

Don't see any. That "^" mark is to show how the 3 boards will be glued up...
Got the 3rd board jointed to match #2...time for a bottle of glue, a brush to spread the beads of glue out..and few cauls, and a few clamps..

Cauls had been pre-made...as I also ripped the bread board ends to width...ran some scraps through, too...let this mess sit a day....
Had a few edges to clean up..

As the ends were a bit rough along their edges...a few swipes with the #8c took care of that.

These should dress up a rather plain looking top?

Note: There are now 4 blanks laying on my bench..each will become a drawer front...They will need ONE edge jointed, for now...as I need one straight edge to lay off of......like squaring the ends to length...and getting the other edge parallel to the first one....will go about all of that in the Next Episode....after the top is done...stay tuned..

Clamps came off the top, for a little bit....needed to square one end...the other merely needed a sanding..
Got out a router...

With a straight cutter bit....milled a tongue onto both ends of the top..

Router takes a 1/2" shank bit.

Then the tablesaw to mill a groove to fit onto the tongue...along the edges of both bread boards....fine tuned for a tight fit...then the clamps came out, again...

A little squeeze out..meh

So..maybe tomorrow, the top can come back out of the clamps...I can clean things up. and get it ready to attach to the case...we'll see....bought some knobs, today..

Thinking 2 per drawer?

Cost was $0.97 per knob....

Top is out of the clamps, flat ...and the corners rounded...Router to do some shaping..

Ran down the front of the case's front stiles..

Across the bottom rail..

And matched up the feet to the bottom rails of the case's sides...

Same profile.

Top was installed..

With 2 screws and washers up in front..

And in back. Trying to get the drill/driver to get to these..was fun..stand the case up on it's own 4 feet..

Run the router around...case is basically..done..final sanding will be later...and plug that hole. too..

Nothing like having all of the edges matched with the profile.
