Project Information

I've really got to give thanks to my friend and customer , Brian , for all of the business he has provided me with since I gave him one of my boards as a Christmas gift too many years ago now.
This board was to be a surprise gift from him to some relatives that had an old , well used and now delaminating board that they kept on their stove top as added food prepping counter space in their tiny apartment. The board spans the width of the stove and covers the burners when not in use.
The woods are Figured Cherry and some nicely figured Maple with a patch of Mineral stain as seen in the last two pictures…..they loved the added "character" that the stain provides. The stain is rock solid and I just couldn't dispose of the piece with all of that figure in it. Your comments are most welcome : )

Thanks for looking and Happy Holidays to all of you !

This is a nice cutter, Dusty. And you happened to use my favorite wood combination. It looks really good and good idea for including the mineral streaking in its construction.

Merry Christmas to you too and have a happy new year too.

Dusty: A great looking board. Do they always keep the one side up for cutting and then flip for design.

A great design for it's intended purpose.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

very nice piece Len, that figured lumber adds so much character on it's own to these boards, I sure hope these people appreciate the unique pieces they are cutting their food on everyday :)

Hi Royal , A lot of folks use templates to guide their routers on , but seeing as all of my boards are custom sizes , I would need to make a template for each one : (
Instead , I simply use an edge guide for the straight runs and very , very carefully connect the corners. I use a router speed control (and a sharp bit) to help avoid burning in the corners because of the slow rate of travel .
If you need some pictures , I could make some for you next time I make a board : )
p.s. Practice , practice , practice…...and remember to make several shallow cuts rather than hogging it all out at once….that will give you more control and lessen the chance of burning in the corners or possibly worse : )
Depending on the size of my board , I will either use my PC690 router with the PC Edge Guide or my Bosch Colt with the stock edge guide.

Awesome board! The figure kinda makes it look like polished shell in some of the pics. Your friend's going to love it.
