Project Information

Our one year old German Shorthaired Pointer puppy was threatening to jump our old gate so I used some salvaged redwood fence boards to build a new one. I ripped the old boards down to 2 1/2" wide and planed both sides to net 9/16". Then I ran it by tongue and groove cutters on my router table. The little Shop Fox feeder made it a quick, safe and consistant job. The 2x redwood frame was joined with blind mortise and tenons and pegged with 7/16" birch dowels. I put drain grooves and weep holes in the rails to prevent rotting. It all went together with Titebond 3 glue.. I put beveled rain cap in the top and hung it to the existing posts. I am pretty proud of it overall.

The Shop Fox feeder is pretty sweet. Really nice mounting base and very adjustable arm. I bolted the base to a piece of 3/4" plywood sized to also fit my Unisaw. I had some trouble feeding the slightly slimey redwood boards, probably due to the relatively small drive rollers. Waxing the table helped. If you are used to the much larger and powerful industrial feeders you will need to make adjustments. It isn't cheap but very handy.

smart to put the grooves on the bottom of the rain cap too.
That feeder is something I have wanted for a long time. It just makes feeding so much more consistent, especially on woods that burn if you stop or slow for a second. Nice job.

Sorry about the sideways photos. They are all correctly oriented in my files. Could not figure this out until I did more research today. Hopefully no more of these in the future!
