An Adirondak chair made with California reclaimed redwood (slats and arms) and western red cedar (legs). Oiled with Watco natural Danish oil and finished with oil based outdoor spar varnish. This one is my favorite.
Just wondering if the area in the front (foot/leg rest?) is an integral part or separate? Also, there are very distinct color differences. Is this due to two different types of wood?
The leg rest is a separate unit from the chair. Makes it easy to handle for moving and winter storage. There are two different woods in the chair. The back slats, seat slat and leg rest slats and the arms are all Redwood. The supporting structure, legs verticals etc. are Western red cedar. A couple of the pieces are quite light, but they are still cedar. I was fortunate to have the pieces of redwood for the back slats that enabled me to arrange them for some symmetry. I wanted to keep moisture from getting into the screw holes so I plugged them using Wenge, not for its moisture resistance, (whatever that may be, I have no idea) but for the contrasting color.
