Project Information

I built this canoe from storm downed red cedar and red oak milled with a chainsaw mill.
She's my baby, 11' 7" in length.
Easy to carry, a dream on the water.
She's built from Gil Gilpatrick "puddle duck" forms from a previous build with some forms omitted and the spacing modified to achieve target size and weight.
Thanks for looking

Thanks again for all the kind comments,
Eddie ,I have lived in Alabama for 10 years and still thank God everyday for creating such beautiful country and rivers.
tomd, Gil has a chapter on building paddled but I have'nt built a nice one yet, I use a storebought kayak paddle on fast water and I have a cedar "pole" with 1/4" plywood blades for easy water.
pip, you are off to a great start. The white guide is a beautiful BEAUTIFUL canoe. Glad your taking lots of pictures and posting them. I want to see your progress.

I love this. I have to believe that this had to take a lot of skill to fit all of these pieces of wood in a way that makes the craft sea worthy. Congratulations on a job well done. You have made a beautiful thing.

She's a beauty. I have had my Red Cedar drying for 2 years now. Hopefully some day I will get home to make it.

That is a really nice canoe! Does anyone know if it'll turn grey, anyway to prevent it?
