Project Information
I needed a stand for the phone when I reorganized the living room, I remembered a stand I made in Gr. 10, that would be the spring of 1964. I had used it for a plant stand for many years, ended up in the basement. One of those treasured thing one never throws away. The assignment at the time was to design and build an ash try stand. We did not smoke but I found a ashtray and this is the project after many years of re purposed use
We did use it for a phone stand for awhile, but wanted to make a new top and shelf, ended up finding a couple of slabs of a burl that was about the right size. Just needed to sand them down, actually used the thickness planer, then drum sander and then finish off by hand.
I guess that picture, I have already poured the epoxy finish on, I love the depth and brilliance of this type of finish on burls. This burl is from a popular tree, here is one taken in the sunshine.
Now after 54 years it lives again in all its glory. New top and self, repainted frame and polished feet, as good as new and has memories of that year in 1963. I believe we had a judged display that year and it did recieve recognition.
Thanks for looking, Comments are appreciated.
