Project Information

This is part 2 of my R4511 TS extension. I still have to drill the holes in the front and back angles to mount it and round over the edges but heres my storage concept solution!

One problem i tried to solve is when i am using my TS i always have pencils, tape measure, wrenches, etc sitting on the top and always in the way….. so i designed the left extension to keep these things out of the way. the top is removeable to access my tools… but i can also have a flat surface if needed. you can see in the closeups that i added adjustment screws to level it perfectly to the TS surface and rounded over the bottom edges so that it slides into place easier since it fits snug!
My original plan was to make the box about 12 inches deep and add a compartment to store TS blades…. but i have a new plan to build a seperate cabinet that will sliide under the TS to hold TS blades, Router bits and other tools . i will post part 3 when that cabinet is finished.
Let me know what you think!

I think that's a great idea, I never would have thought of it. How is the paint on the front rail holding up where the fence slides?

Nice work! I really like the storage compartment concept. It is just the right size. Also a good spot to hide a bag of twizzlers.

I recently purchased a R4511. So far everything has been great except the fence face which sort of snakes in and out. Not too severe and easily fixed with fence faces. What material did you use for your fence faces?

Once again… great work!

thanks guys for the feedback!

i used industrial paint on the rails hoping it would be more durable than regular spray paint… its holding up pretty well so far! it is scuffing where i the fence slides back and forth but that was to be expected! i will probably powdercoat it one of these day but it works for now!

Nordichomey, i just have 2 pieces of 3/4" MDF with a Formica Laminate on both sides… it seems to be pretty flat, but i may change to UHMW in the future! one thing i would check is that the bolts holding your sub fence on arent too tight. that could cause it to "snake"! just an idea!

i was considering putting hinges on the top of this extension and making it really fancy… but after thinking about it the top would be in the way when it was in the open position… so just a removeable top was the way to go for me…

Vince, i like the granite top so far… i do tend to be more cautious when switching my fence and miter guage so that i dont crack or chip the miter slots… it does tend to scratch but i think thats to be expected and the nature of the material… over all i love it but one thing i didnt think about before buying it was that some of the accessories "magnetic" dont work on granite!!!

How about a groove approximately like a miter slot in the Middle deep enough to hold your pencil. That way you wont have to open & shut every time you are looking for it. Always keep your tape on your hip where you can find it.

PS I do like the wings though, You guys have almost made me want to mount my cast alum router table to my Saw

well, for me its more than just my pencil and tape that i need to store… i have TS wrenches, allen keys for my Incra miter guage, splitters, throat plates…etc. my plan wasnt to open and close it everytime i need something… it was more to leave the top off when im at the TS and put the top on when in needed a large flat surface.

but the miter slot for a pencil is a good idea!! thanks!

thank for the feedback!
the one thing i did add to it this past weekend was a piece of carpet in the bottom… i was going to use tool box drawer liner but i didnt have any extra at home! After i got all the tools, spliters and throat plates in there i noticed that when you shut the TS off and it shutters upon shut down all the stuff inside rattles around. No more rattling now!
