Project Information

This is a free-standing Quilt Rack out of oak. The base/legs are laminated bent oak. This came out good, but I have built a better bending jig so I hope the next ones will be better. The top is fully rotational, allowing the quilt to be displayed in any position. I may go with a wider rack next time to allow more of the quilt to be displayed… Don't know yet.

I finished it with 220 grit sandpaper, except the end grain that I finished with 320 grit. Then 2 coats of tung oil and 3 coats of polyurethane since quilters are a finicky lot (sorry, honey) and don't want wood oil or stains to bleed into the quilt… .

Thanks for looking,

Very nice. I've often told my gal pals that woodworking is a lot like quilting, just with wood!
I agree that maybe a wider rack, but hard to tell without seeing a quilt on the stand. If you get a chance, maybe you could add a picture?

Hi Sandra,
Unfortunately this already left the shop. The rack is 15" on the outside, approx 13" for the quilt.

Great idea on the rotating top, like the design, looks really elegant with the wood and legs.
