Project Information
OK. So here was my problem. I have to take my lathe outside to use it. My little shop just won't work with the mess. (I'm sure there are many others who have to also). That's no problem, but when you take the lathe out, that's just the start! You have to run the extension cord, get your tools and whatever your going to use. That's the problem! At first I would take out the lathe then run back and forth to my basement shop to get what I needed next. I would spend more time running back and forth then turning. Well, I thought I solved that issue when I found an old wore out shadow box in my shop. I just put all my tools in it and now one trip does it. Problem solved. Or so I thought.
As you can see it's all in there but my gosh, you have to dig and hunt for each item you need. What fun is that! Well, during a shop clean up I found the ends to a beer tote from the first beer swap that didn't make the grade. Should work just fine for a tool tote or a lathe tool tote! I set out designing it using autosketch version primitive.
With the basic design set, I began work on it. A little change here and there I was able to get my turning tools in one box. Here is what I came up with minus the tools.
The more I did the more I had to find room for more. I began adding items to the outside even. I even added a tray for holding sandpaper. Everything fits nicely and I can't wait to give it a test run. One trip and I have all my tools out with me and neatly organized. Oh, and yes, those are Kellycraft carbide turning tools. Love them. Thanks for looking and reading this long post.
