Project Information

I found plans for this platform bed on the Lowes website. It was an easy project. Used 3/4 inch birtch plywood and modified the height of the bookshelves from 8 inches to 15 inches for a higher overall platform and more practical storage boxes around the base. Total materials cost was $307. My 14 year old son and his dog Ladybug love the new bed. A nice upgrade from the twin bed he has been sleeping in since age 4. We found a nice tempurpedic mattress on Nature's Sleep Groupon deal for $370. Hope you enjoy the post. Hitman.

Good idea, the possibilities are endless. You could store a lot of stuff in the shelves underneath.

I keep thinking about this bed. But the thought of all that edge banding just makes my brain hurt.

I would have definitely rounded off those sharp corners …but after all its only for a teenager and they heal quickly.

What a great idea. Perfect for boots, too. Dusty, though. I hope he vacuums often!

Good Idea ,I bet your son loves it. I tend to agree with Greg rounding the corners would make it safer .

Thanks for all the comments. The corners aren't too bad. I sanded the corners with a finish sander and he loves the bed. HitMan
