I stained it using dark oak anilyne dye and Minwax red mahoagny stain, followed by poly and garnet shellac.

It is not a sliding dovetail. It is dado and tennon construction. Trick to making it tight yet moving freely is the tennon is a easy slip fit in the dado and therails have a slight toe-in and toe-out to created a slight interferance fit. Did this by making spacing blocks for the ends of the rails when gluing up the tennons in the ends.
