Project Information

About 6 years ago while surfing eBay I stumbled upon a cool bookrack auction. It was a marked Gustav Stickley bookrack. I saved it to my favorites and watched it sell. It closed at $800.

Saving the pictures and dimensions from ebay for a later project, I sketched it in Autocad.
About 2 months later I made two of them and was very happy to sell one of them on eBay for $129 the following week.

This one has sat on a shelf in my office ever since.

Quartersawn white oak, mortice and tennon contruction, oak pegged made with adjustable slide made on the tablesaw.

Hi Dan,

Interesting design, regarding the sliding dovetail extemsion of it. ( I'm guessing there dovetails).

Very nice work.

MAX
Dimensions of this bookrack:
ends are 7×7 inches
rack closed is 11 inches
fully extended is 18 inches

Bob
I stained it using dark oak anilyne dye and Minwax red mahoagny stain, followed by poly and garnet shellac.

Lee
It is not a sliding dovetail. It is dado and tennon construction. Trick to making it tight yet moving freely is the tennon is a easy slip fit in the dado and therails have a slight toe-in and toe-out to created a slight interferance fit. Did this by making spacing blocks for the ends of the rails when gluing up the tennons in the ends.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback !! attached is a link to the auction will write more in my ebay blog.

Dan,
That's real nice workmanship. A little heavy for my personal taste, but clearly well crafted and nicely executed.
