I don't think I have ever done a project and went straight though, without making future jigs , rewiring a outlet closer to project, sharpening all my drills instead of one, installing a new light to see better , putting a new cord on the drill, Been building the same Barstool for 35 years and still don't know the correct order because I make jigs to speed up the work flow.
So I guess it was no surprise when I was thinking about making a leather wallet, I might need a knife that makes straight cuts easy, so research told me a head knife. kinda pricey , that led to doing a little metal work , but first my layout, I on research I found I needed metal layout sticks and gauge blocks, all the different sizes out of aluminum stock. then that led to making a sharpening system, (lap disc wheel , buffing pad wheel and diamond flat wheel .) had to redo my grinders with the diamond discs and various type grits, cutting saw blade with angle grinder ,was easy, then beveling slowly , bandsawing the purple heart and googling the brass pin double peening old timers method was interesting. I love the knife , keeps a straight line as opposed to using razor knife and wandering. The knife holder I made works quite well also. I can seen why knife making , and building the 2x72 sanding mechs is so popular with us old timers , makes for a fun project .
