Project Information

A Brian Brace original, the Purple Heart Hutch features purple heart inlay, maple, and mahogany. Purple heart is a unique and vivid wood from Central and South America. This piece also features hand made handles with solid brass hinges and ball catches. This piece was me working to try to mix a few wood together and try to make them compliment each other. Purple heart i s a very hard wood to bend and the piece at the top of the doors is solid! I had to build a jig and let it dry for 24 hours and then cut it and glue it . With it being mitered corners this helps the piece stay in place without moving so it will last over time.
This piece was featured in the 2011 summer issue of Style 1900 arts and craft magazine!

That is a very beautiful design. I was actually pleasantly surprised that it was not a full hutch solely made of purpleheart. Very nice use of materials.

Thanks everyone!! I built this piece about 4 years ago and have since done one with the base closed in . I just have to re-size the pictures to get them to load . But some day I will post. Thanks again.
