Project Information

The majority of my handsaws are Japanese pull saw so when I saw this pull saw miter box laying on the bench on a recent episode of Woodsmith Shop I wanted to make one. It is made from scrap Walnut with a quick polyurethane finish. The jig is set up with a knob on one side that drops a pin into 3 holes in the turn table set at 45, 90 and 135 degrees and then has a knob on the other side on an inverted bolt to lock the turn table into any angle other than those three.

The plans come from ShopNotes magazine issue 115. Thanks for looking.

Nice looking miter box. It took me a minute to figure out that the wood goes on the back" side of the box.

Did the Woodsmith episode tell anything about how to build it (no use re-inventing the wheel if they have)? Do you recall which Woodsmith Shop show? TV or web? Since I use Japanese saws myself I may make one.

Mads: Thank you

Wood: The Woodsmith episode mentioned nothing about it, it was just laying there so I had posted a thread here about it and was led to the ShopNotes magazine issue with it

I used it quite a bit this past weekend to cut quarter rounds as I was installing flooring, 45 degree corners come out dead on.

This is beautiful! How is it holding up after a year of use? I found the plans. Yours, made of 'scrap wood', is head and shoulders above their plywood version for looks. Thanks for sharing.
