Project Information

SO YOU'RE thinking doesn't grizzman make anything else…lol…well yea, look at the past 113 projects…lol…i am going to be making these trays as a business, but right now ive made some for friends, these trays went to the friend who helped me get my walnut tree to the sawyer, and he also gave me veggies from his garden, he rode his 4 wheeler around and he delivered some to me and my wife, we would wake up and see a bag on the porch…yep loaded with fresh veggies…sorry to drag this out, these trays are made from cherry, walnut , heart pine and mimosa, and finished with lacquer, thanks for looking.

Grizz,

Beautiful woods, straightforward design, nice proportions. Routing the inside and outside of the handle holes would feel better on your hands, and a poly finish would hold up better to heat and moisture. Keep up the good work.

AL, i did rout the inside handle holes, and they feel great, so are you saying the poly would hold up better then a lacquer finish

Beautiful trays, Grizz!

If I may ask, how did you account for wood movement in your tray bottoms? I'm thinking of making a couple of serving trays myself, and haven't solved that issue yet.

Nice Bob,

An oil based poly would take more time but it's impervious to lots of stuff we throw on the trays. It wouldn't require anything else. Satin would be my choice if I get that far…LOL!

the wood i use is dry dry dry…i'm not worried about movement, i've made things like this for years…never had an issue with movement…so far no issues, but saying that, wood is wood…anything is possible…so doc, are you also saying that poly is better than lacquer…if so where do you get this info…i've used lacquer in this application for years, never had any issues …so between you and AL…you're saying poly…but i would like some documentation…

Those are fantastic, Bob! Sure to be cherished keepsakes.

I've never worked with Mimosa, although there are some around here.
