Project Information

I wanted more protection for my rules than the paper envelopes they came with. I had some scrap mahogany strips from ripping some table legs. I ripped the maple strips from some 1/8th stock bought at Rockler. The "tenon caps" were done with the table saw and auxiliary fence. I got lucky with a nice snug fit from the start. I like the friction fit better than adding latch hardware. I eased the edges with a chamfer router bit. The finish is wipe on poly then Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen/Conditioner (from my gun stock refinishing days). Finally I added the felt for cushioning.

Thanks for looking!

Now that is cool…and the answer to a problem I've had for years. Thanks for posting that!

Excellent $$$ protection. I need to make some of these. I'm hard on things. I tell people "I could break an Anvil in a marshmallow warehouse".

Very nice case! Too bad the condition of all my rules is beyond the need for a case.

Very cool. I keep mine in a drawer with my other nonprecision tools. Perhaps I should take your lead.

Thanks for all your comments. Anji 12305, in lieu of a royalty check, just make a donation to Woodworkers Anonymous :) My "Why didn't I think of that sooner" was, after finishing, it occurred to me incorporating a spirit level would have been nice. Oh well. There's always next time.
