My Brain said that I needed this. Actually it will help a lot with carting sawdust up the stairs. Emptying that plastic bag was always really messy, and I would allow it to get way too full. Now I parked a 20 gal trash can in the empty space of my Delta DC, and its job is to gather most all the incoming debris. It does a fine job of this, and the can pops right out for emptying.
I built a design based on the baffle work by Thein. The air comes in, gets pushed to the side, so it swirls around. The dust is in this air. The dust finds the slit around the baffle board and falls through to the bottom of the can. The air continues swirling and exits through the center pipe.
I did not find any real plans or instructions, so I winged it. The multiple circles were cut on a the bandsaw with a crude circle cutting jig. The Delta DC has a 5 inch inlet so this presented a purchasing problem. LJ Lenny came to the rescue and supplied me with the foot of the flex hose that I needed. (Thanks, Lenny.) Now I needed a coupler on the collector side for the 5 inch hose. What I did was to cut a small disk and then place a 4 inch (5.25 inch O.D.) PVC coupler on it. Again I used the circle cutter to trim it down to size. I have this piece on the top, and its male counterpart on the inside of the assembly.
The rest of the build was pretty straight forward, with a lot of measure twice thingies. The baffle is held with dowels. The completed unit seems to tuck in quite comfortably and works a charm.
