Project Information

This is my first post to Lumberjocks. I've been a longtime reader and looker, but just never bothered to register. Just thought I'd contribute something rather than just looking at all the amazing projects people post here.

I have a list of projects coming up that will greatly benefit from having an assembly table to help keep them square during glue-up (e.g., shop cabinets, picture frames, shadow boxes, etc.). Since I don't really have room to dedicate to a permanent assembly table, I designed this small, portable table to use with a B&D Workmate and made several accessories for it. I'm really happy with how it came out!

If you're interested in greater detail, I've included a few videos showing the full construction details below.

Part 1.
(the table)
Part 2.
(T-track clamps)
Part 3.
(dogs and wedges)

That's really nice. I have a similar glue-up panel, but it's not as fancy as yours.

The bottom line is, if you can get one corner square, the rest follow suit, and your set up definitely does that.

Great work!

Very nice set up and some great videos to boot! Nothing like an easy way to get things squared up!

Glad you joined! Looks like you have many good ideas to offer.
Thanks for sharing Brian!

I think most of us have a piece of plywood that we have a square corner start, and just screw down blocks on the outside to use a wedge to lock it in. Yours takes that concept and launches it.

Outstanding job, and great videos.

Thanks for posting, and welcome to LJ's

Welcome aboard Brian. Out of the gate #1 project. Not bad for 1st post.

Thanks. Yes, I made the hold downs and knobs. One of the videos listed shows making the wooden hold downs. I also have another video making knobs.

Thanks. I'll check out your videos.
I like the way you drilled the holes using a router.
That technique would probably work for holes on a bench for bench dogs.
Well done.

I like… Any alteration to a workmate should always be shared as we can then enhance our use of the item…

However, (DOH! my famous however), why have you removed the clamping feature or the W'M'? With the grid and t-tarcks, it makes it so much more versatile yet the lack of clamping seems a negative to me. All the rest is A1!

PS. AFter thought… Initially spoken "from the hip"... I don't fully know your intentions of use so my negative comment above may be way out of place… I do appologise.

PPS. Welcome and please ignore this Richard Cranium!... I am known to drink too much.

I watched all 3 of your videos. Enjoyed them all.
You have some cool tools. Where did you get that old Dwalt radial arm saw and the Dewalt lathe?
Their a blast from the past when I used to watch Norm Abrams New Yanky Workshop.
Great work!
We should be buddies..

I find most of my old tools on Craigslist (radial arm saws, Delta jointer, Power King lathe, etc.). I like to restore them, but they often take more time than expected.

Thanks. I hope you watched the video and saw that I didn't alter the Workmate-it's just an assembly table accessory that fits the Workmate when needed.

Sorry M'. I will get off my rrrs and watch it and then eat my words… Far too often, I speak from the hip and get shot down to less than my 5' height.

This was an excellent and well done project.

I watched your videos and they are extremely well done with clear views of how you did the steps.
