Project Information

I was approached by a friend to build a new Plinth (fancy name for base) for a 1970s turntable he restored. I didn't know people still listened to records, but I guess there are some real fanatics out there. Really complex shape and precision holes for the turntable to mount in.

Black Walnut and Curly Maple. Finish is Waterlox wet sanded to 1200 then BriWax.

Very nicely done! And, yes there are still turntables in use-I have a Denon with a beautiful rosewood Plinth that has outlasted four or five CD players and has much richer sound.

Very nice.

And I also second the record fanaticism. :)

My goodness-I haven't seen a Dual turntable in probably 30 years! Those puppies were top of the line back in the '70's.

Anyway, great looking plinth! I like your choice of woods, as they really complement each other, and seem very fitting for that turntable.

Great looking base, the variation in color really makes it stand out. And you'd be surprised how many of us there are out there that love that vintage equipment. Sure CD amd MP3s make your music much more portable but I'll take that 70's equipment any day. Nice work.
