Project Information

To thank the organization I worked at for the past 3 years, I decided to build a plaque that will go in a new room we have. I first built a very simple plaque, then I sandblasted the logo in the wood and finally burnt it using a propane torch (like the ones used in plumbing).

The tape I used mostly protected the maple but as it burnt, it created interested shadows I didn't expect. I left them in place as it added character. I then sanded the whole piece again with 180 grit to remove some of the excess burning. I finished the piece with a few coats of wiping varnish.

Very nice and you are correct the "shadowing" only enhances it.

Very cool, love the design. The shadowing effect looks good. It is always nice when a side effect turns into a benefit.
