SWMBO wants to put flower boxes along the railing of our balcony of our new sunroom. The problem is how to mount the hangers. She didnʻt want to put them on top of the handrail.
My solution was to use a dovetail type hanger system.
The parts included the planter box arms (green), Block A that attached to the hanger and 2 Blocks B that would hold Block A.
Block A was attached to the planter box arms with 2 screws.
The planter box arms were made of treated 2X4ʻs and painted. The Blocks were made out of Cumaru (a brazillian hardwood) that is very dense and super hard. They are finished with Watco Danish oil.
Installation starts with screwing Blocks B to the underside of the top of the handrail of the balcony railing with 2 screws each.
Then the planter box arms are slipped between the two blocks.
With all the arms installed ….
The planter boxes are put in place.
Bottom view of the hangers.
This is what a happy SWMBO sees from inside the sunroom. Everyone is happy.
The nice feature of this system is when the season changes and SWMBO wants to remove the planter boxes, the planter hanger arms can be removed without any tools and stored until they are needed again.
