Project Information

I made some plantation shutters using the Woodline router bits and plans, with a few of my own modifications.
Louvers are actuated from behind with a home-made hidden control rod.

Frame is contructed of poplar, shutter components are made from basswood
This is the first window, I plan to do several more as time allows.
My least favorite part is the paint job, so I invested in a paint sprayer for the rest.

All in all, quite a difficult (and time consuming) project for one of my first woodworking projects, LOTS of trial and error, but I'm happy with how they turned out.

These look nice. I've thought several times about buying Rockler's system, but I think I'll look into Woodline.

Thanks.

Cost and variety of bits was the main driver for selecting the woodline set. Rockler was 50-60 for just the one bit, woodline has the set of 5 for 80. I can't speak to the quality of the rockler bit, but the woodline bits worked fine for me.

In terms of there other jigs, I got by alright without them. I'm sure they could be a time-saver since it takes less time and effort measuring, marking, etc.

We use to manufacture all of the moldings for plantation shutters in our molding plant. We sold them to people all over who made shutters in small shops. I've seen a lot of plantation shutters over the years and this set looks very nice. You did a nice job - especially considering that you made the moldings yourself. Congratulations.
