Project Information

Designed by Chris Schwarz (from Woodworking Magazine a few years ago), based on the furniture of Gustav Stickley. Made of Quartersawn White Oak, finished with stain/danish oil/amber shellac/and polyurethane. Green mable tile in the center.
This was an interesting project, I spent alot of time cutting the pieces out so the grain ran straight across or straight up and down on each piece. I also, resawed the legs to get more perfectly riftsawn grain (for a more consistent look on all four sides of all the legs). Then I spent lots of time getting the best looking chamfers I could on the tops of the legs. And of course it took awhile to get clean thru mortises for the lower stretcher and tusk tenon.

thanks for looking

Thanks for the compliments. The other thing I learned is that it would have been alot easier to put the finish on all the pieces before assembly! Getting into all those inside corners took forever! Next time I suppose.

I wish I had the patience to take better photos too.

John,
Nice work on the plant stands, Ilike the style. Your execution is very nice as well.
When finishing mission style pieces, I have found it easiest to spray on stain after assembly. Makes it easier to cover all the spindles and rails.
Great work
