I may be a fool for thinking this but I think I could (with a little experimentation) make my own template.

I'd like to try a template myself. How about a few key measurements to get us started. Great job BTW. I've seen these made as a free standing post also. I like the hanging style.

And now that you have a template, maybe you can sell them to a local nursery or something? It would encourage people to buy more pots and flowers/plants.

I'm guessing though that if one pot is removed, the thing will lean. I understand that gravity and friction are holding the pots there, but have you had it go through any gusty periods? It looks like it might not take too much for a pot to shift a little and then maybe fall out? That would be my only concern.

Seeing this though, I'd think one could make sort of an A-frame design that would sit on the ground, with the angle of the frame matching the angle of the side of the pot. You could have 2-frame pieces on each side of the "A", for a total of 4-frame pieces. It would sort of be like the tile holders or picture frame holders that sit on a tabletop, only a pot would be where the picture would go.

With such a design, you could remove pots without any balance issues, since the structure would be planted (no pun intended) on terra firma. I'm not doing a very good job of explaining this, but maybe you can visualize what I'm describing?

Great design that should be popular as a gift. Speaking of that, are you planning on, or have you made a quantity of these up to give away?

I start with a 1×4 30" long. Cut away most of the waste, then use a template router bit to shape the curves and angles. After cutting the top and bottom 45 deg. I use a cove bit to add an edge around the whole piece. I've given a few away as gifts…but I really like the nursery idea!! You do have to keep a balance by having all of the pots attached, or take off two at a time. As for the wind…this one has been through a few heavy Santa Ana winds and surprisingly pasts the test very well. I do have a closed hook for the rope to go through to keep it from swinging off of the hook.

Well if it holds up through those gusts, I'm sure it'd do fine out here in Denver. We do get wind from time to time, but nothing like the seasonal winds you get!

The great thing here is that any sort of scrap wood could potentially be used for such a project. Pallet wood, for instance, or any other leftovers, for that matter.

I need to stop searching through all the Project postings as my "to-do" list is going to be so long, I won't have time for anything else! Regardless, this has been added as a possible future project, and I might even attempt to build what I did such a terrible job of describing above and that way, I'll have a picture I can show everyone.

Let us know if do end up approaching any nurseries and have success with that.

Thanks Pops! Looks like you could maybe trace a profile from the pot you'll be using. It looks like its pretty much leverage locking the pot in place.

I'm in the process of planning my Spring planting now. I would definitely like to make one of those hangers for myself!

I've made a lot of these over the years. There is no 1 pattern fits all. You need to adjust for the lip of the plant pot
