Project Information

I have ton of scraps, mostly small pieces, but I refuse to throw anything away. I know I can just build some small shelves, spice racks, etc., but I really wanted to do something more unique. I'm always researching and reviewing ideas and OPP (other people's projects). Simply copying other projects is easy, but I'm careful to inject my own uniqueness to make the projects my own.

I was reviewing a trim carpenter's blog post (Gary M. Katz) and his focus was on a Romanesque mansion built in 1895 (read the post here). While browsing the photos, the newel post crown caught my attention. Gary said, "If you think about it, you'll realize how easy it would be to replicate this molding detail." No sooner than I finished reading Gary's blog, I when straight down to the workshop, cut up some scrap crown molding and created what was soon to become the base of my plant stand.

I decided to carry the attention through the entire piece as opposed to just one part of it. I had some cedar left over from another project and tried my hand at a mitered and tapered leg and added a different crown profile at the top.

At first I called this a plant stand, but then found my dog to be a natural display.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for looking.
