Project Information

I have been trying to make one of these for a while now. I could never quite figure it out until recently where the one difficulty has eluded me until now. Things I learned; 1) You can't wing plaid, the pattern must be devised before you begin otherwise you might get a nice pattern but it won't be plaid. 2) Precision and alignment is critical, don't slobber so much glue on it so that you can't see the pattern and therefore the alignment of the individual pieces.

I'm in the process of finishing it now, I put one coat of Tried and True Danish oil on it and I plan to follow up with a coat of Tried and True Original finish. The dimensions are 9×12 x 1 5/8. Yes, I will put rubber feet on it.

Many thanks

Just in the progress of scaling a 12" x 18' x 1 3/4" copy

Won't get to actually build it for a while (recovering from shoulder surgery), but figuring these out is 'fun' in its own right

Hope you made sure that the Danish oil you're using is food safe.

Thanks again for sharing your design

Yes, Tied and True finishes are food safe. Their Danish oil is polymerized linseed oil, that has actually been boiled, with no additional driers.

exceptional. That's now going to be the new challenge for others to come up with their own designs. I can see the trend starting with this one. Thanks for sharing

I just keep coming back to look at this. From design to choice of woods to craftsmanship, just perfect.
