Showcase cover image for pill box

Project Information

Something I made for my mother. It is a seven day medication reminder box that will look better on her breakfast table than the plastic thing she is currently using. It is made from bocote and ebony and the pill tray is curly maple with canarywood dividers. Much of this project used small pieces of wood that came from my scrap bin. Hinges are from Brusso. Finish is lacquer. Hope you all like it.

Excellent idea why have plastic when you can have a quality wood product.

Beautiful box, and an even more outstanding idea for all of old farts to keep our wonders of modern medicine organized. Thanks for the post, and I just hope SWMBO doesn't see this one cause I'll be in for another project.

Great idea! I have a feeling you might be seeing quite a few of these popping up on this site. I know I just added this to my "must make" list. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful wood - excellent craftsmanship - unusual
ends - the elongated shape is very appealing and different
and may be more user friendly.

I haven't ever been particularly taken by the look of Cocobolo. You have changed my mind for the better. This is absolutely gorgeous!

That is just plain gorgeous! The select of woods was excellent!

One thing to be careful about is that some pills interact with each other and humidity and can ruin the project and your mother pill regimine. I know as this happened to my dads pill box and pills. The tray was useless and we had to get new pills to replace those that broke down (they were not cheap)! It might be worthwhile to consider a dessicant hiding place.

Al, nice craftsmanship here and beautiful wood. I like the form and shape of the ends. Expensive hardware. Are the ends doweled into the sides? Was the maple tray formed with a tray router?
