Project Information

Here are some of the peppermills that I have produced. Some of these have already found loving homes. I have some pictures posted behind my lathe and look at them when I start but I really don't have a clue what the finished product will be until it is finished. The 2nd pic in is a prime example. The dark knob on the one started out as part of a block of ipe that I glued together and when boring out the center it exploded (too much heat) so I took the knob and added it to a plainer piece of stock and came up with a contrast. Some of these woods I haven't a clue as to what they are, all I know is that they are beautiful. The 4th in is cocobolo. The 3rd set in are made of black walnut. 2nd one in the 2nd pic is American Cherry with a Brazilian Cherry knob.

Comments and questions always wecome. Thank you for looking.

Very nice job. I've been wanting to turn some peppermills with my lathe. I've been doing mostly pens and bowls. Where did you get the hardware from?

One thing I didn't mention on making these is that you need a center rest to be able to bore them out. I have made one si if there is interest I will blog it or place it as a project to show you how to construct one.
jayman7 - I get my mechanisms from either Pepper Passion or packardwoodworks.com.
TJK - The center one is about 14" and is pinkish red. A piece of wood I got from a friend that acquired it in HI. No clue what ir is. Turns very nicely.

A nice variety of designs. I like the ones with coves and beads rather than those that are straight. Just personal taste. They're very attractive. In my next life…..

What kind or brand of grinders do you use?
