Project Information
I bought a lathe a couple months ago and started turning. I'm very new to this but picking it up quick. I mainly wanted tot get into selling some pens and pencils to make a little extra money. I've sold 7 so far and working on building up a stock for shows or w/e. It's a lot of fun and gives you a feeling of accomplishment with every finished item. I usually do a BLO and CA glue finish but I do switch it up because some woods just don't look good that way. Sometimes I go with just thin CA as a final finish with a couple coats. I'll make lots of different shapes in the wood as I'm turning, just w/e comes to mind. I like to put two grooves at the top on most of mine, thinking that I could use that for a signature. I thought more about that recently and now think that some people may not like that on theirs so I've done a few with out it.
This not only will make a few bucks hopefully but also keep me occupied and happy. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for that little something extra to have fun with. Of course it does cost quite a bit to really get into what with the lathe, tools, grinder. mandrel, bushings, and various pen kits and clean out bits, oh and the drill bits, and finish, and sand paper, and oh well. you get the idea. Lots of accessories.
