Project Information

At the theme park job I had over the summer I had to build a pegboard stand for some 'weapons' in one of the park's Halloween mazes. That weekend I told my kid about the stand and he mentioned, "Dad, I've never seen a rack like that, with all the tools in place on hooks." Duh! The light finally went on in my head and I cooked up this stand to build for my shop.

It's dirt simple: The base is 2×4 stock decked with 3/4" ply, the uprights are of 2×3 stock rabbet/butt jointed and screwed to the crosspieces; 2 panels form the ends and a third panel forms the center. These are joined in a "I" configuration, with pegboard storage on one side of the third (center) panel and shelves on the other side. The footprint is 2'x4', and the total construction cost was $60. Note, however, that more than a half-sheet of plywood remained, and I scavenged casters from an unused furniture dolly.

All in all a very satisfying project, offering both mobility (a MUST in my garage workshop) and convenient storage. I'm thinking about adding doors to the pegboard side to increase the storage, but as we all know, there's a vast gulf between THINKING about something and actually DOING it!

My favorite part is the flag hanging on the Pegboard.
Nice job! I really need to make a few shelves like that for myself!
I hope you included the kids in the build!
Hang some tools on it for them.
