Project Information
I made this paper towel and shopping bag holder because the bags are usually stuffed somewhere and the are never handy. (At least in my house anyway.) This piece is 16" tall to the peak of the roof. It is 5 1/2" wide and 10" long. I made it out of 1/2" poplar. The dowel is 1" round with a poplar finial on top. The house is 5 1/2" square and 12" tall to the start of the roof. The roof comes off to load the box with bags. I made a cutout at the bottom of the house with a 2" forstner bit (I made four holes) then I sanded them smooth with a drum sander. The window is made from 1/8" dowels and the name plaque is made from poplar with a bevel. I used my mini torch to give it a rustic look and the name is engraved with my customers name. I routed the entire project with a 1/2" roundover bit on my table mounted router. It is stained with Cabot country maple and the roof, finial and window are stained with Cabot dark mohogany. I put two coats of gloss spar urethane to finish it off.
