Project Information

This is my last piece of spalted palo verde and it was big enough to make this lidded box. I used it this way to capture the spalting on the top. I showed to a friend here at the park and he could see a 3, a 2 and 00 in the splating on top- for whatever that would mean. He also said that palo means stick and verde means green. and the tree does look like a green stick tree

I almost had to put it in the fire wood pile. The lid has an inside spigot to hold it in the chuck. There is a square corner inside which can be a stress riser at certain times and I accidentally tested it and it failed. I spun it too fast to polish and four pieces flew out of the rim. Luckily I found all of them and carefully glued them all in place with the help of a big rubber band. You cannot tell where the joints are. It is about 3 1/2" dia. and 3" high. It is finished with EEE and Shellawax.

Nice turning and save Jim, not a good feeling when the pieces fly off. That's great looking wood.

I wonder if there might be a simple way to index the grain automatically when you put the lid on. Like a spline or maybe a square key like thing inside the lid. Just a thought
